What Sets Athena Apart As a Photographer

I recently relocated my newborn & family photography business, Athena Leila Photography, to South Tampa (and the surrounding areas of Tampa Bay). I’ve been working tirelessly to transition and establish the business in this beautiful new city.

Every photographer has a uniqueness that differentiates them from other artists in the field and I figured I’d share a few things that set me apart as an artist in this market:

  1. Photography Education: I first started studying photography in high school back in the 1990’s, using a manual Nikon camera & learned how to develop the images using an old fashioned darkroom. I later went on to study photography at the University of Miami, FL.

  2. Photography Experience: I first started in the profession around 17 years ago. I photographed events for a real estate magazine, I worked as a 2nd shooter for a wedding photography company and I managed a youth sports company and captured families for fun on the side. After the birth of my third daughter, fifteen years ago, I started my own newborn & family photography business.

  3. Experience with Children: I am a mother of six kiddos between the ages of 7 and 20! I also homeschooled all of them through middle school. So I am very experienced with working with newborns, babies, toddlers, & kids/teens of all ages.

  4. Personality: friendly, happy, honest, talkative, laid back, spontaneous, fun, a perfectionist

  5. Photography Style: bright, colorful, contrasty tones. Pretty locations and landscapes. Capturing: natural smiles and laughing, tender moments & affection, children and families having fun & playing games. Sometimes posed but a lot of lifestyle & candid.

* Family Feature: I photographed the family below for the first time a few months back. The mother had reached out to have her family photographed with my company. She had been following my photography page on Facebook for years and had attempted to schedule but for various reasons we were never able to get it officially booked. She knew of my work from a mutual friend, who I photographed professionally for several years. It was finally happening and we did the session at a gorgeous location. Everyone was looking sharp and color coordinated perfectly. Her family was very laid back but at the same time so natural, happy and affectionate. I am truly honored to have been able to capture their essence.

“My precious boys!! You did amazing capturing the essence of our family. #talent at its best!” - Y. Moore
